TET / CTET Paper 1 Standards & Qualifying Marks

Candidates must possess a valid passing certificate in either UPTET Paper-I or CTET Paper-I (Primary Level). The required qualifying marks under government regulations are:

  • General (Unreserved) / EWS: 60% marks (90 out of 150 marks).
  • OBC / SC / ST / PwD: 55% marks (82 out of 150 marks).

Important Note on CTET Certificate Validity: Following the NCTE notification of June 2021, TET qualifying certificates are valid for a lifetime. Digital marksheets and pass certificates downloaded from DigiLocker are fully accepted during document verification.

B.Ed Ineligibility: Supreme Court Binding Ruling

Pursuant to the landmark judgment delivered by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India on 11 August 2023 in Civil Appeal No. 5068 of 2023 (Devesh Sharma vs. Union of India and Others), the NCTE notification dated 28 June 2018—which had previously permitted B.Ed holders to teach Classes 1 to 5—was quashed in its entirety.

The Supreme Court held that the pedagogical training of B.Ed is designed for secondary and senior secondary classrooms, whereas primary school instruction requires specialized foundational training in child psychology and elementary pedagogy, which is exclusively imparted in D.El.Ed programs. Therefore, B.Ed degree holders cannot be considered for primary assistant teacher appointments under UPESSC Advt 05/2026. For complete legal context, review our B.Ed Eligibility Analysis.
