What Is the UP Super TET?

The UP Super TET (officially designated as the Assistant Teacher Selection Examination) is the state-level competitive recruitment test that directly determines final appointment as a permanent government primary school teacher across Uttar Pradesh.

While qualifying UPTET or CTET is mandatory, neither test grants employment—they are strictly screening credentials. UP Super TET is the decisive competitive hurdle where your written examination performance directly secures your rank in the state merit list and your district cadre posting.

Official Status: UPESSC Advt. No. 05/2026

Recruitment under the 2026 cycle is officially governed by Advertisement No. 05/2026 released by the newly established Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), headquartered in Prayagraj. The notification invites applications for 12,405 posts of Assistant Teacher (Primary, Classes 1 to 5).

Conducting Body: The New UPESSC Framework

Prior to 2024, primary teacher recruitments in Uttar Pradesh were conducted by the Examination Regulatory Authority (PNP), Prayagraj, while secondary appointments were administered by the Secondary Education Service Selection Board. To streamline teacher appointments, eliminate recruitment delays, and establish uniform examination standards, the state legislature enacted the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act.

Under this unified body (UPESSC):

  • All teacher recruitments from basic to collegiate levels operate under one centralized commission.
  • Mandatory One-Time Registration (OTR) is required on the Commission's portal (upessc.up.gov.in) prior to form submission.
  • Adoption of a standardized 120-question, 360-mark evaluation model featuring negative marking to curb guesswork.

The total announced vacancy of 12,405 posts is distributed across two distinct administrative departments:

Department & Institution Category Cadre Type Total Posts Pay Scale
Basic Education Department (Urban Primary Schools) Urban Basic Schools 11,508 Level-6 (Basic ₹35,400)

Super TET vs UPTET: The Fundamental Difference

One of the most frequent misconceptions encountered by our teachers is candidates confusing UPTET with Super TET. Here is how they operate in practice:

  • UPTET (Teacher Eligibility Test): Qualifying exam only (valid for lifetime). Passing with 60% (Gen) or 55% (Reserved) makes you eligible to apply for teacher vacancies, but provides 0 guarantee of employment.
  • Super TET (Assistant Teacher Selection Exam): Merit-based recruitment examination. Only candidates who have already passed UPTET or CTET Paper 1 can appear. Your score out of 360 marks directly decides whether you get a government appointment letter.

Selection Stages & Merit Logic

Under UPESSC Advt 05/2026, the historical 60:40 academic formula (which factored in 10th, 12th, graduation, and training percentages) has been discontinued as the primary selection criterion. The selection roadmap is structured across two objective stages:

  1. Stage 1: Written Examination (120 Questions / 360 Marks): Offline OMR-based test covering 14 multidisciplinary subjects. 100% of final merit is determined by your score in this examination.
  2. Stage 2: Document Verification (DV) & Medical Assessment: Candidates scoring above the competitive merit cut-off are summoned to Prayagraj or district basic education offices to verify original academic testimonials, TET certificates, caste/domicile documents, and identity records.

Academic marks (High School, Intermediate, Graduation, D.El.Ed) are now used strictly as a tie-breaker when two or more candidates achieve identical written scores.
