Official 2026 Marking Rules & Penalties
Unlike previous recruitments in 2018 and 2019 where candidates faced zero negative marking, UPESSC Advt. No. 05/2026 enforces strict negative marking:
| Response Status | Score Adjustment | Impact on Final Merit |
|---|---|---|
| Correct Response | +3 Marks | Adds directly to your 360-mark aggregate. |
| Incorrect Response | -1 Mark (1/3rd penalty) | Deducted from your accumulated score. |
| Unattempted / Left Blank | 0 Marks | Zero penalty. No addition, no deduction. |
| Multiple Bubbles Darkened | -1 Mark | Treated strictly as a wrong answer. |
The Mathematics of Guessing: When to Risk a Mark
Is it ever smart to guess in Super TET 2026? Let us analyze the probability and expected mathematical value:
| Candidate Scenario | Probability of Success | Mathematical Expected Value per Question | Teacher Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
Blind Guess (4 options unknown) | 25% (1/4) | (0.25 × +3) + (0.75 × -1) = 0.00 Marks | NEVER GUESS High risk of downward score bleeding and anxiety. |
Eliminated 1 Option (3 options remain) | 33.3% (1/3) | (0.333 × +3) + (0.667 × -1) = +0.33 Marks | TENTATIVE RISK Only attempt if your overall safe attempts are below 80. |
Eliminated 2 Options (50-50 choice) | 50.0% (1/2) | (0.50 × +3) + (0.50 × -1) = +1.00 Marks | RECOMMENDED TO ATTEMPT Statistically, attempting five 50-50 questions gains ~5 net marks. |
The Two-Pass OMR Examination Strategy
To maximize accuracy and control time pressure during the 120-minute examination:
- Pass 1: The 100% Certainty Sweep (Minutes 0 – 65):
- Move through all 120 questions sequentially.
- Instantly solve and bubble every question where you are 100% certain of the answer (especially Child Psychology, Teaching Skills, Hindi, Sanskrit, and static GK).
- If a question requires long computation (e.g., complex geometry or time-distance) or you have doubts, mark a circle next to it in the booklet and skip immediately.
- Target by Minute 65: 75 to 85 solid, error-free bubbles darkened on the OMR sheet.
- Pass 2: The Calculated Risk & Calculation Sweep (Minutes 66 – 110):
- Return to the circled questions.
- Solve the mathematics and reasoning calculations carefully.
- For conceptual questions, aggressively eliminate invalid options. If you can confidently eliminate two options, make an educated selection. If completely baffled, leave the OMR bubble unshaded.
- Final 10 Minutes (Minutes 111 – 120):
- Verify roll number and booklet code bubbling.
- Do NOT engage in panic guessing in the final 3 minutes. Every impulsive guess carries a 75% chance of wiping out a hard-earned mark.
Double Bubbling & OMR Penalty Pitfalls
The OMR optical scanner is an unbending machine. Protect your marks against these mechanical pitfalls:
- Incomplete Erasure: Using fluid, blade scratches, or erasers on OMR sheets triggers automatic scanner rejection or counts as a double bubble (-1 mark penalty).
- Stray Pencil Marks: Only use black or blue ballpoint pens. Never make pencil dots or rough calculation sketches inside the bubbling grid.
- Offset Bubbling: The most catastrophic error in competitive exams is bubbling Question 45 in Row 46. Always cross-check the question number on your booklet before placing your pen on the OMR circle.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much mark is deducted for wrong answer in Super TET 2026?
One (1) mark is deducted for every incorrect response, which represents a 1/3rd penalty relative to the +3 marks awarded for a correct answer.
Is there negative marking for unattempted questions in Super TET?
No. Unattempted questions incur zero penalty. Leaving an answer bubble completely blank neither adds nor deducts marks from your score.
What if I bubble two options for one question?
If more than one circle is darkened for a single question, the optical scanner automatically treats it as an incorrect response, resulting in a -1 mark penalty even if one of the choices was correct.
