The 2026 Merit Shift: Written Marks vs Academic Index

For nearly a decade, primary teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh relied on a complex 60:40 composite formula: 60% weightage from the written exam and 40% academic weightage calculated from Class 10, Class 12, Graduation, and D.El.Ed/BTC aggregate percentages (10% from each qualification).

Under the newly enacted Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) regulations governing Advt. No. 05/2026, this academic formula has been entirely abolished for selection.

Why This Change Empowers Deserving Candidates

In past recruitments, candidates who graduated in earlier decades when university grading was stricter suffered heavy disadvantages compared to recent graduates from liberal grading regimes. Under the 2026 single-benchmark model, your rank depends 100% on how accurately you answer the 120 objective questions on 3 & 4 December 2026.

Official 4-Step Tie-Breaking Protocol

When two or more candidates obtain identical total marks in the written examination, UPESSC resolves the ranking dispute using the following sequential tie-breaking hierarchy:

  1. Age Priority: The candidate who is older in age (earlier Date of Birth) is ranked higher on the merit list.
  2. Professional Training Score: If candidates share the exact same date of birth, the candidate with higher marks/percentage in the Teacher Training Course (D.El.Ed / BTC / B.El.Ed) is awarded priority.
  3. Graduation Marks: If the tie persists, marks scored in the Bachelor’s degree (Graduation) are compared.
  4. Alphabetical Order: If all prior parameters are identical, candidates are ranked in alphabetical order of their full name as registered in Class 10 High School records.

District Preference Choice & Allocation Process

Once the consolidated State Rank List is declared, successful candidates participate in district choice-locking through the UPESSC counseling module. Selection proceeds as follows:

StageProcedure DetailsAction Required by Candidate
Stage 1: State Rank Declaration
UPESSC publishes overall rank and category rank for all qualified candidates based on written scores out of 360. Download scorecard and verify category quota status.
Stage 2: District Choice Filling
Candidates submit their preference order across the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh on the counseling portal. Lock all 75 districts in order of preferred posting location.
Stage 3: Automated District Allotment
An automated allocation algorithm assigns districts based on: Candidate State Rank > Category Reservation > District Vacancy Quota. Download official District Allotment Letter.
Stage 4: BSA Office Reporting
Candidates report to the office of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) in their allotted district for certificate verification. Appear with original documents and self-attested dossiers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is academic merit included in Super TET 2026 selection?

No. Under UPESSC Advt. No. 05/2026, the 60:40 academic formula has been discontinued. Final selection and state merit ranks are based 100% on marks obtained in the written examination (360 marks).

How is a tie in Super TET written marks broken?

Ties are resolved first by Date of Birth (older candidate gets preference), second by D.El.Ed/BTC marks, third by Graduation marks, and finally by alphabetical order of name.

Can I choose my posting district in Super TET 2026?

Candidates submit district preferences during counseling. Allotments are granted strictly in order of state rank, reservation category, and district-wise vacancy availability.
